The 40th day of Ramadan, also known as the holiday of Aid Al-Fitr, has arrived. Ramadan is an important month for Muslims all over the world. It is a month to contemplate and reflect on their lives during this time where they limit their intake of food and drink during daylight hours. The reason it's called the "month that flies" is because once night falls, time seems to fly by faster than ever before. With this fast comes the blessings that come with it like reflecting on what you've done for others and yourself. Many people, especially older generations find Ramadan to be a difficult month. In-fact it was very difficult for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to fast himself. But during this time, Allah kept perfecting him and he went from being a very hard person to follow to one that became a model for everyone else. With that being said, Ramadan is not only about hardship but it is also about giving back to the community. This year thousands of people in Canada have been fasting for Ramadan keeping their meals either at home or going out to eat during daylight hours. For many families this is their first time having a meal together after the day ends and the call to prayer has sounded from mosques all over town or city. So, what is it that people should be mindful of? Giving: Giving money and food to those who need it during the month of Ramadan is a great thing and will easily pay for itself back by receiving blessings for those who do. Giving is a very important part of Ramadan as this is the month where charity begins. If you give what you don't need to those around you, you will receive many blessings from them as well as its own sense of satisfaction knowing that your good deed will return to you in your lifetime. Reciting Surah Al-Fajr : During the day there are many opportunities for people to remember Allah in their everyday lives, but with this fast comes more focus on him. The daily reminder of going to prayer everyday and being mindful of God is a great thing. Many people have taken the time during this month to recite the first Surah in the Quran called Al-Fajr which is sent down to mankind as a reminder that Allah is there every day and that he will go to sleep one day as well. Going out: There are many places to go out for dinner during Ramadan, from simple pizza dinners with family to fancy restaurants with tableside service. It's a time for people's families to come together and enjoy each other's company. The food is a nice time to share and thoughts of the month, where there is a lot going on, can easily slip into one another. Entertainment: For many this is one of the best times of the year. Every Ramadan people have something special planned for themselves and their family. It's a time to watch movies, listen to music, go to parks, visit malls and beaches. Making dua : There are many types of dua that can be made during this month. The most common prayers are the duas asking Allah for forgiveness about your sins, protection from harm or asking for forgiveness if you've hurt someone else's feelings unintentionally. 8eeb4e9f32 15
